Alfie's Origin
Alfie the Prophet of the Eel takes their place in the story. After the Reset he woke scared and alone, with no memories of who he had been. Others accepted that emptiness as the shape of things. Alfie did not. In the days that followed, he says, he came into contact with the Seven-Eyed Eel, an ancient entity whose nature no record names and whose age no one has measured. The Eel made him a promise: that it would restore what had been taken, once it grew strong enough to do so. Whether the Eel can keep such a promise, the record does not say. Alfie believed it, and belief was enough to move him. He searched out others who felt the same loss, the same refusal, and together they raised the land of 7EyedEel around that shared purpose. By the time the second great forgetting fell on them, the Eel had grown strong enough, Alfie holds, to shield his people from it, giving back the memories the wave would otherwise have taken. The goal, as he states it plainly, has not changed: to recover all of what was lost. How much that is, and whether it can be recovered, no one yet knows.
