Pickles The Monarch takes their place in the story. Pickles is an avian, originally from a flourishing land atop grand trees. She used to live a simple life, or so the fleeting thoughts tell her. She does not remember it. Her memory is foggy at best, and what passes through it now are fragments more than facts: impressions of height, of canopy, of something she should be recognizing. None of it holds long enough to name.
